Inner Work For the week of: July 16, 2007 Debilitating Daydreams Pleasant daydreams, images playing our mind about winning the lottery or meeting our perfect soul mate or some other personal predilection of the moment, substitute for real life. Such daydreams keep us from taking the actions necessary to reach our goals. Why work for some result when we can simply imagine already having it? Unpleasant daydreams, dwelling on imagined but unlikely personal calamities, recalling past insults and affronts, watching some imaginary inner drama unfold, also keep us mired in a half-lived life. Daydreams seem innocent enough, yet they waste our energies and take us away from this moment, diminishing our presence. They keep us tuned to the story in time rather than the timeless present. With our attention drawn into the daydream, we lose contact with the depths that constantly call to us, if we could but listen. For this week, notice your daydreams and their effect on you. |
