Turning Toward the Light

Beyond consciousness, beyond stillness and peace, lies a sacred world of creative activity and Divine light. One approach toward that begins with relaxing inwardly and outwardly, letting thoughts and emotions lose their charge and subside, and entering the spacious context of life, the peace of consciousness. One more step and the light begins to open to us.

How to take that step? We gather ourselves inwardly, totally focused. With the whole of our being, we reach beyond our very awareness and open ourselves heart and soul. We call out to the Divine in words we hold sacred, empty-handed and spiritually impoverished, pleading for succor. And we continue reaching, opening, and begging at this doorway to the sacred, keeping the faith that eventually it will open. The very attempt brings a measure of fulfillment, for in our devotion to it we find the satisfaction of giving our all toward this most sacred task.

With persistent practice, that light does open and stays accessible. At any time, without any preparation, it requires only that we turn toward it with the whole of ourselves. That purifying, transformative, ecstatic energy begins to rain down upon us, filling our whole being with its joyous largesse and love.

For this week, practice turning toward the light.
